About Us

I call this the "Grand Experiment." I am the owner and developer of RVSITESEER. I am also an RV enthusiast. It all started one day as I was looking for the next cool thing to see and a campground to use for home base. I searched for campgrounds on the internet and up popped lots of sites. However, after many minutes (maybe a half an hour or more), I noticed that many of the sites looked impressive, but had very little useful information about RV parks and campgrounds. Many more were slow and the stuff I cared about was buried deep. And, almost none of the sites I saw contained both things to see and campgrounds or had a way to cross reference both at the same time. I wanted to see sites near campgrounds, campgrounds near sites, maps and distances between, and weather.

At this point I thought, "I can do it better." But, I didn't start out trying to develop a web site for the public. I started by building an application just for me where I could keep track of the campgrounds I have stayed in, with notes about how we liked it and also the attractions and things to see around it. As the thing grew in complexity, I thought "why not put this thing on the web and see who else likes it?" Thus began my odyssey. My odyssey quickly became my obsession and my “Holy Grail.” Oh, I realize that this site does not yet do everything I have mentioned, but it will. I’m not done yet. In fact, I have barely started.

While this web site started out as a hobby, more or less, I found the need to promote it in order to obtain the data I need to make it all work. I decided that I could spend a fortune on bad commercial databases, or a lifetime of trying to compile the data myself, or I could just ask visitors and campground owners to contribute. That is why most of this is free. I give you a neat application to use, or promote your campground, and you help me populate the databases that drive it all. Like I said, it’s a Grand Experiment. But hey, it worked for Google and Wikipedia.

RVSITESEER is a family affair. I do most of the work, but the family supports me and wishes me well as long as I don’t stop taking them camping.

Thank you for visiting. Come back often. Get involved!

Sincerely,
